Welcome to the website of Can Torras

Can Torras is the name of our farmhouse in the Gavarres Hills, a National Park of Catalonia in Northern Spain, which is famous for its champagne cork and charcoal industry. Our recently renovated farmhouse with rooms for Bed & Breakfast, and our Self-catering Apartment in Girona, are now available for visitors.

Can Torras is Catalan, short for Casa d'en Torras or House of Mr Torras, the farmer who lived here many years ago. Now it is our home, an English family living and working in Catalonia since the year 2000.

After only six months in our dream house in the hills, we discovered termites in every beam in the house and the whole place was threatened with collapse.  There followed an eight year nightmare of termite treatments, litigation, permissions and building work. Our journey has been a tough one - you have no doubt seen similar tales on the home restoration shows on the TV!

But, and this is the big BUT, the thing which has kept us going is that we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. We love our new, improved eco house and we're here to stay!

Now we can offer Bed and Breakfast so you can enjoy Catalonia too. We hope that you will come to feast on our wonderful views, our delicious food, and bask in the sun which shines down on us most months of the year. We love to cook and grow the food that we eat so after a day exploring the countryside, you can dine on Catalan-inspired dishes under the pergola, looking out across the valley as the sun sets. Later, jump in the hot spa to watch the stars and let the real world fade away!

Alternatively you can stay in Girona and cater for yourselves in our newly refurbished apartment looking out onto the River Onyar. It is in a great central location, bright but never too hot in the Summer as it is surrounded by trees. There is the majestic Devesa Park over the river to the front and behind the fascinating streets of old Girona.

If you are visiting Catalonia for just a short time we can point you in the right direction whatever your interests. This year are offering drive itineraries especially for garden, art and food  lovers so our visitors can enjoy independence but with a lttle local know how to find the best spots in the area.  Alternatively, you may want to combine some organic gardening and Catalan cooking into your holiday and we can arrange an afternoon's classes.

If you want to get real, hands-on experience of life in the hills you can volunteer. to work with us. We are hosts for both WWOOF and HelpX. Finally, if you just want peace and quiet to complete a project of your own, then Can Torras is the perfect retreat to relax and get the job done.

Take a look at what we are offering and contact us if you are interested in staying in this idyllic part of the world.
